Robbers Narrowly Escape Jungle Justice

The armed men were arrested as they began assaulting card players at the CCC neighbourhood in Douala.

Ahmadou Moussa and Yves Aurelien Mveh Bissaya, all in their twenties, are in police custody following their arrest on Saturday night just when they began a surprised attack on a group of CCC inhabitants.

The assault soon flopped as police on routine patrol in the area burst upon them, having acted on the information of a military officer who was reportedly passing by. But, however, security struggles against the robbers quickly changed character when the population of the neighbourhood braced up to administer jungle justice on the robbers who were already under arrest.

The new task was for the police to struggle to rescue the robbers from the inhabitants, who had quickly galvanised into an irking mob to lynch the attackers. Faced with two crimes – robbery and mob justice - the uniformed men decidedly arrested some members of the mob who courageously pulled the robbers in a bid to lynch them. Men of the Rapid Intervention Unit (ESIR) were, however, masterly in their strategy as they latter released the inhabitants they arrested to the pacification of the mob that was already venting anger against them.

Before taking off for the Judicial Police headquarters in Bonanjo, where the two armed robbers are currently in custody, the fracas between the inhabitants and police had been settled.

A police source reported that Ahmadou Moussa and his corhort Yves Aurelien stormed the place of the attack on a motorbike. With the aid of a gun (an automatic pistol of the mark Walter), they began to assault a group of card players, suspected of being in possession of huge sums of CFAF. The ESIR team, under the leadership of Police Inspector Emmanuel Christian Melingui whisked Ahmadou Moussa and Yves Aurelien the Judicial Police headquarters where they are being investigated for armed robbery and illegal possession of firearm.
