Memve’ele Dam Turbines Under Fabrication In China

A control mission from Cameroon will be in China in the days ahead to ascertain the level of work.

The 54-month deadline given to the Chinese firm, Synohydro, constructing a multibillion hydroelectric dam in Memve’ele, Ntem Valley of the South Region, will be respected to the letter, the Project’s Director, Dieudonné Bisso, has said.

He said the speed at which the Chinese contractor is going could even lessen the initial timeframe, all things being equal. In a chat with Cameroon Tribune on Tuesday February 5, Dieudonné Bisso said the fabrication of turbines for the project is ongoing in China and that a control mission from Cameroon will be in China in the days ahead to ascertain work on the turbines.  Work, he said, is intensifying on the site and that in 20 months from now, the first dyke would be complete.

The project whose foundation stone was laid last June 2012 is expected at term to pump additional 201 MW or more of electricity into the national grid with an annual production of 1,140 GWh. It will among others comprise four turbines of 51.6 MW, four alternators of 50 MW and four 225/11 KV elevator transformers with a capacity of 56 MVA.
