Prime Minister Philemon Yang on Tuesday discussed with its President in Yaounde.

The Pan-African Parliament with headquarters in Midrand, South Africa, wants Cameroon’s support and cooperation to enhance its growth, especially within the framework of the ongoing transformation process. The President of the institution, Bethel Nnaemeka Amadi, accompanied by the Cameroonian-born First Vice President, Hon. Roger Nkodo Dang, among other officials, had discussions with Prime Minister, Head of Government, Philemon Yang in Yaounde, February 12, 2013.

“We have come on the special invitation of the President of the Republic to brief the government of Cameroon on the Pan-African Parliament transformation process that has been going on since 2009,”, Bethel Nnaemeka Amadi said after the audience with the Prime Minister. He further said the review of the transformation process will come up during the African Union Heads of State summit in May 2013. The visit to Cameroon, he explained, was to express gratitude for government’s support and congratulate the country on the election of Hon. Roger Nkodo Dang as the Parliament’s First Vice President. The special message of the Parliament to Cameroon, Bethel Nnaemeka Amadi disclosed, was given to the Prime Minister to forward to the President of the Republic.

As at moment, the Pan-African Parliament is an advisory and consultative body of the African Union but the members are working to see it become a legislative body. “We believe that time has come for the parliament to be endowed with legislative and oversight functions to be the legislative body of the African Union,” the ¨President said
