The branch headed by Mengue Suzanne was opened in Ebolowa Thursday, February 14, 2013.
The Chairman of the National Commission on Human Rights and Freedoms (NCHRF), Dr Divine Chemuta Banda, in the presence of the Governor of the South Region, Jules Marcellin Ndjaga and other dignitaries, officially opened the South Regional Branch Office of the Commission and commissioned its officials in Ebolowa on February 14, 2013. The official opening of the South Regional Branch Office of the Commission brings to six operational regional branch offices that include North West, South West, Littoral, North and Adamawa.
“To develop the culture of human rights in the South Region, the Commission will rely on a member of the NCHRF and a senior staff of the Permanent Secretariat”. This was how, the Commission Chairman introduced Mengue Suzanne, the South Regional Branch Office head, he commissioned into office. The seasoned magistrate will work in close collaboration with the Rapporteur of the South Regional Branch, Beatrice Ngando, who will be acting as the Secretary pending the appointment of the Regional Secretary.
Dr Banda used the occasion to present the National Commission on Human Rights and Freedoms. He appealed to all government officials to support the branch office staff as they seek to advance the mission to promote and protect human rights in the South Region. The Commission Chairman expressed the desire for the concerted actions of all human rights actors to have a real impact on the promotion and protection of human rights in the South Region and the country in general. Before Dr Banda’s speech, the Secretary General of the Commission, Barthelemy Obongono Eye’e, presented the institution in greater detail.
The South Regional Branch Office of the Commission located at the Regional Delegation of Agriculture and Rural Development, takes off with a boost in human rights documentation provided by the Commission’s central library and a consignment of 150 books provided by the United Nations Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Central Africa.
