The cement producing company, G Power Cement, on Friday, February 15, 2013 signed an agreement with the government of Cameroon to establish a factory that will produce over 800,000 tons of cement yearly in the seaside South West resort town of Limbe with production expected to begin by 2015.
Prime Minister, Head of Government Philemon Yang chaired the agreement-signing ceremony at the Star Building. The Minister Delegate in the Ministry of Finance, Titti Pierre and the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Mines, Industry and Technological Development, Fuh Calistus Gentry, signed for the Cameroon government, while the Chief Executive Officer of G Power Cement, Bernd Stiehl signed for his company.
The Chief Executive Officer of G Power Cement, Bernd Stiehl disclosed that work will effectively start in March 2013 with the laying of the foundation stone and cement is expected between 24 to 36 months. The project would initially employ 150 people. Bernd Stiehl said government was opened to grant them exoneration on some imported raw materials for the manufacture of cement. As to why they chose to locate the factory in Limbe, he said the town has a deep seaport that will enable big ships bring imported materials like clinker, adding that local material was available.
Secretary of State, Fuh Calistus Gentry stated that the first cement was expected in 2015. He said the factory will provide cement needed for giant dam, railway, roads and other infrastructure projects in the country. According to the Chief Executive Officer of G Power Cement, market studies they carried out show high demand for cement in Cameroon and which can equally be exported to neighbouring countries liked Chad and the Central African Republic.
