Yaounde UNESCO Office To Go Regional

Preparations are underway for the office to cover the Central African Sub-region.

The Director of Coordination for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Field Offices, Morgens Schmidt, on Friday February 22, 2013 in Yaounde had discussions with the Minister Delegate in the Ministry of External Relations in charge of Relations with the Commonwealth, Joseph Dion Ngute.

The raison d’être was to evaluate the level of preparedness for the putting in place of the regional office of UNESCO. The august guest came to finalise preparations to transform UNESCO office Yaounde to a regional office covering the whole of the Central African Sub-Region. The office, he said, will solely be for professional use.

He explained that it will host a technology development centre, media and communications centre and that of education. Morgens Schmidt further disclosed that the office is expected to go operational by April this year and will cover ten countries of the Central African Sub-region. The office is also expected to work in close collaboration with four national offices that already exist in the region.

Minister Joseph Dion Ngute and Morgens Schmidt also reviewed relations between Cameroon and UNESCO.
