Collective Bargaining Agreement Signed For P&T Sector

The agreement was signed in Yaounde yesterday, March 21, 2013.

Workers in the telecommunications sector can now heave a sigh of relief. The National Collective Bargaining Agreement for the telecommunications and related sectors was signed in Yaounde yesterday, March 21, 2013.

Speaking during the occasion, the Minister of Labour and Social security, Gregroire Owona called on owners of enterprises to respect the terms of the agreement as defaulters will have to face the law. According to the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, workers will benefit among other things from increases in salaries for all categories. The lowest paid worker in telecommunications will receive a minimum wage of FCFA 43,273 and the highest worker will earn FCFA 490,765 per month.

The agreement also offers workers bonuses and allowances such as longevity, lodging, transport, and use of personal cars. There are also bonuses for labour medals equal to one month basic salary per medal. Above all, the 13th month salary will be paid to all workers.

The event took place in the presence of the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Jean-Pierre Biyti bi Essam and leaders of workers trade unions.
