CPDM, SDF in Tight Battle in North West

The parties with almost the same winning chances are gunning for the seven elected Senators.

The race to win the seven elected Senators in the North West Regions at the April 14, 2013 senatorial election will be a veritable battle between the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM and the leading opposition, Social Democratic Front, SDF. Some 1023 councillors, the electoral college will in the ballot box decide which of the two contesting political parties win the election. None of the contesting CPDM and SDF can for now claim alright victory for Elections Cameroon statistics show that the CPDM has 509 councillors and the SDF 507 of them. This indicate that there are seven councilors who belong to the Alliance of Progressive Forces in the Mbengwi and Santa Councils, the main contesting parties share with Bernard Muna’s APF.

The ability of the CPDM whose list is headed by veteran politician and former Prime Minister, Simon Achidi Achu to first of all maintain its councillors before setting out to win over the floating seven councilors and some SDF councilors will turn the victory tides to its side. The party will count on prowess other barons who are substantive candidates such as Awanga Zacharia, Wallang David, Eno Lafon to maximize its winning changes.

The Social Democratic Front with National Chairman, Ni John Fru Ndi, the list leader will be leaving nothing to chance. The party has enlisted all its most credible supporters in each Division such as the Mayor of Kumbo in Bui, Njong Donatus, former Mayor of Ndop, Tabali Bernard to win the hearts of not only its councilors but those of the other parties. John Fru Ndi in an interview to Le Messager daily French language newspaper last weekend in Douala, said the list he is heading is made up of substantive and alternate candidates of quality , stating that considering the reduced number of voters, the SDF will win with absolute majority.
