The Central African Economic and Monetary Community, CEMAC wants Parliaments of the sub-region to oversee the effective implementation of its directives on the reinforced system of managing public finances. The Commissioner of the Economic, Monetary and Financial Policies Commission of CEMAC , Paul Tasong at the helm of a delegation on working visit to Cameroon to sensitise government to transcribe the directives into local legislation, had discussions with the First Vice President of Cameroon’s National Assembly, Hon. Hilarion Etong in Yaounde, yesterday, March 26, 2013.

“Our vision has to do with management by objectives, re-orientating the management of public resources towards programmes which enable government and its partners to focus on the ultimate which in every State and even in the community suggests emergence within a certain timeframe which in the case of Cameroon is 2035,” Paul Tasong said. CEMAC wants to change the approach in public management from, “simply doing line items in the budget to aligning to specific programmes with indicators on the basis of which we can in due course evaluate what has been done,” he further explained.

The working sessions with Cameroonian authorities as is the case with those of other CEMAC member States, are intended to ensure that the authorities are not only aware of the existence of the directives, but are equally willing to translate the directives into local legislation within the stated deadline, Mr Tasong said.

The same delegation was received by the Minister Delegate in the Presidency in charge of Supreme State Audit, Henri Eyebe Ayissi on March 25. They were equally expected at the Ministry of External Relations yesterday March 26.
