Jamaica-Cameroon Friendly Negotiations Flop

The Jamaican federation has withdrawn their bid without offering any explanation.

A planned friendly match between the Indomitable Lions and the Reggae Boys of Jamaica that would have taken place in May in London, has been cancelled. The Jamaican football federation has written to the Cameroon football federation to say they are no longer interested in playing against an African country without offering any further explanations.

The annulment is a great setback for Cameroon that wanted to use the encounter to oil the Lion’s machinery ahead of the month of June during which Cameroon has to play two crucial matches counting for the qualifying series of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The negotiations were already far advanced that provisions were already being made for the Lions to stay in London after the game to fine-tune their preparations for the qualifier matches.

Cameroon faces Togo in Lome on June 7th and one week later, challenges the Democratic Republic of Congo in Kinshasa on June 14th. Informed sources say the officials of Fecafoot and the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education are working on an alternative plan to seek for a new sparring partner for Cameroon during the next Fifa period for friendly matches in May.

Cameroon no longer wants to miss a Fifa period without playing a friendly match. The names of countries like the Central African Republic and Angola are being announced as future likely sparring partners for the Indomitable Lions. In a related development, the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education will on April 9th launch a broad-based consultation towards the election of a new president of Fecafoot.
