The Adamawa Region will host next year’s edition of the sports jamboree.

It was exactly 3:55pm when the Minister of Basic Education, Youssouf Hadjija Alim gave the kick off signal for the finales of the football match in the male category for the FENASSCO B games at the Douala University Stadium. Holding since Monday April 1, yesterday’s ceremony marked the official end of the eight edition of the yearly sports jamboree, which regrouped over 1000 participants from primary schools on the national territory, in nine different disciplines. After a 2-2 aggregate, the football match ended with penalty shots whereby the Littoral Region carried the day with four goals as against three scored by the adversary.

In individuals sport disciplines, Caroline Ndoumbe from the Littoral Region backed home three gold medals in the long jump, 60m and relay race categories. She was closely followed by Jean Parfait Djonmaîla, representing the Far North with two silver medals achieved in high jump and long jump. Two other remarkable candidates were Monique Elong and Laurent Njock, from the Littoral who grasped a silver and bronze each in two different disciplines.

The general classification table features the North Region as overall best with 20 medals, being 10 gold, four Silver and six Bronze. The second is the Far North Region with a total of 24 medals, among which nine Gold, seven Silver and eight Bronze. The third place is occupied by the host Region, Littoral which grasped 18 medals, making eight Gold, six Silver and four Bronze. Other awards included a trophy for Fairplay granted to the Adamawa Region. On the organizational domain, the Governor of the Littoral Region, Joseph Beti Assomo, the Government Delegate to the Douala City Council, Fritz Ntonè Ntonè and the Rector of the University of Douala were commended for their efforts. Though the curtains have been drawn, the actors and stakeholders now have their eyes pointed towards next year’s edition, to be hosted by the Adamawa Region.
