The SDF and CPDM competed for Senate seats.

Calm, serenity and peace reigned in the first ever election of Senators in Mefou et Afamba, Nyong et So’o and Mefou et Akono Divisions of the Centre Region yesterday, April 14, 2013. The ruling Cameroon People Democratic Movement, CPDM and the leading opposition Social Democratic Front, SDF competed for the seats of elected Senators in the region.

Voting ended in Lycée de Mfou in the Mefou et Afamba Division by 2;30 pm when 188 of the 190 registered electors cast their votes. Vote counting started in the three polling stations shortly after the close of the polls at 6:00 pm.  The CPDM list had all the 188 votes and the SDF had no vote. The vote counting was in total calm and peace with the forces of law and order effectively at work. The Head of the Mefou et Afamba Divisional Delegation of Elections Cameroon, ELECAM, Dr Essame Josephine Angèle, said over 50 African Union and national observers monitored the election.

By 12 noon, all the 158 registered voters for the Nyong et So’o Division had already cast their votes in the three polling stations in Lycée Bilingue de Mbalmayo.
