A meeting to evaluate the preparedness of stakeholders for the examinations took place last Friday in Yaounde.

Late registration! The Minister of Secondary Education, Louis Bapes Bapes has frowned at certain principals of secondary schools who are handling the issue of late registration into official examinations very lightly. He expressed his feelings during a meeting of officials of the Ministry of Secondary Education to make a balance sheet of the school year which is ending and to measure the extent to which the ministry is ready to confront the end-of-year official examinations.

During the meeting, last Friday May 3, 2013 at the Government Technical High School Nkolbisson, Yaounde, Minister Louis Bapes Bapes said it was difficult for him to understand why at that point in time, there were some candidates who were yet to register for the 2013 official examinations because their parents did not give money on time and also because certain principals have neglected the issue, making it difficult for the structures who organise the examinations to work smoothly. “I am very mad at such principals and I will handle the issue seriously” the Minister of Secondary Education cautioned.

During the meeting which grouped all key actors involved in the Secondary Education sector particularly those to spearhead official examinations organised by the ministry, MINESEC boss also said it was an occasion to take note of issues which still need to be adjusted as well as those that have not been successfully implemented. During presentations from Regional Delegates of Secondary Education, Louis Bapes Bapas highlighted the contradiction which always comes up between sequence results of students and the final results obtained from official examinations. It was revealed that last year, the issue was condemned especially as some students performed so well during class examinations but earned very poor grades during end-of year- official examinations.

Participants at the meeting said officials from the various regions usually give statistics that makes them feel all is well whereas results students obtain in official examinations do not reflect their sequence results. It was stressed that good sequence results should reflect good results during official examinations. The Registrar of the General Certificate of Education, Humphrey Ekema Monono, the Director of Examinations, Competitive Examinations and Certificates at the Ministry of Secondary Education, Bisse Bea as well as the Director of Office du Baccalaureat presented their reports to the meeting which indicated that all is set for the 2013 official examinations.
