Cameroon, Argentina Envisage Cooperation Agreements

A visiting Argentine delegation met with the Minister of External Relations on Tuesday.

A six-member Argentine delegation that arrived in Cameroon on Sunday May 5, 2013 has disclosed their country’s willingness to seal cooperation ties between Buenos Aires and Yaounde through the signing of agreements. The delegation’s leader, who also doubles as the Under-Secretary of External Policy in the Argentinean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Marie Del Carmen Squeff, told reporters yesterday May 7, 2013 after an audience with Cameroon’s Minister of External Relations, Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo, that the two countries will in the days ahead sign cooperation accords in the domains of diplomacy, agricultural research and livestock.

Marie Del Carmen Squeff said by the end of this month, Cameroon’s Ministry of External Relations with that of Argentina will sign a cooperation accord to strengthen ties in all domains. She explained that another accord is envisaged between Cameroon’s Ministry of Scientific Research and Innovation and that of Argentina still by the end of this month. She revealed that negotiations are ongoing for an accord with the Cameroon Ministries of Agriculture and Rural Development and that of Livestock and Animal Industry.

The delegation, through their spokesperson, was grateful for the warm welcome and fruitful exchanges with their Cameroonian counterparts. According to her, the talks opened new avenues for both countries. The South American delegation shared experiences with the Ministries of Scientific Research and Innovation, Agriculture, Livestock and Employment and Vocational Training.

A major highlight of the visit, the delegation leaders explained, was the holding of the first-ever consultative political forum with the Ministry of External Relations on May 6, 2013 to reinforce and strengthen relations. “Cameroon and Argentina have been close, but without concrete links,” Marie Del Carmen Squeff said, while revealing that both countries are now poised to cement links. Prof. Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo handed gifts to all six members of the delegation, explaining the significance of each gift.
