Twenty beauty queens from four regions will compete for the coveted crown at Seme Beach on Sunday May 12.
Come Sunday May 12 afternoon, the annual rendez-vous for the selection of a new beauty ambassador for Hotel Seme Beach is awaited. Seeing its fifth edition this year, 20 beauty queens will compete at the hotel resort, for the eventual selection. According to the General Manager of Hotel Seme Beach, who doubles as the organiser, the event has attracted many more sponsors and partners than expected. However, the final bouquet will be preserved for the end where it shall be unveiled publicly.
Unlike last year whereby the competition was a one-day ceremony, the 2013 edition saw four regional auditioning. The first was at Chariot Hotel in Buea on April 7, where five candidates were retained. The organising committee moved the following week to Douala where five others were selected on April 14. The next stage was in Yaounde on April 20, for the revelation of the capital’s beauty prowess. For the first time ever, the West Region welcomed the event by presenting its five potential misses during a pre-selection on Saturday April 27. The winner will replace Sonia Minkoé Moutcheu, present holder of the crown.
The annual beauty pageant is opened to female Cameroonians aged 18-25. Apart from a series of parade in swimsuits, a mastery of both official languages is an advantage. Contestants are tested on their natural beauty, academic and/or professional backgrounds, public speaking abilities and personal motivation. The new Ambassador for Hotel Seme Beach (for one year) will back home prizes in cash and kind, as well as benefit from possible opportunities in the job market.
