North West: New Voter recompilation To Improve Election Score

Biometric recompilation of voters on electoral registers effectively resumed in the North West Region yesterday May  22, 2013 to register those who have been  unable to do  with stakeholders poised to  improve on the 70 per cent score registered by March 29, 2013. In effect, voter rolls were re-opened during an event that kick-started the distribution of voters’ cards which the Regional Delegate of ELECAM, Nga Gasper said, is all about reaping the fruits of biometric recompilation. He took time off to assurances that ELECAM will employ best practices to ensure that voters’ cards are distributed to all eligible voters before the Legislative and Municipal elections. Nga Gasper said the region had so far registered about 487015 voters representing about 70 per cent of the region’s target.

It emerged from the event that among the lot 90 per cent of voters’ cards have been produced for Mezam Division and other Divisions and Subdivisions will be produced and distributed progressively.  It was against this backdrop that  the National Supervisor of the biometric voter registration project, Dr Thaddeus Minang revealed that 70.000 to 100.000 voters’ cards are produced daily and it will take some 80 to 100 days to produce cards for the about 5.4 million voters so far registered in the country.  On-the-spot, some people were served their voters cards. Around to witness the event were: Governor Adolf Lele Lafrique, MPs, politicians and civil society members.
