Basic Education: Checking Corruption In Constructions

National Anti-corruption Coalition officials trained to start the operation on May 27.

Members of the National Anti-Corruption Coalition (CNLCC), a satellite of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) begins a field inspection mission of classrooms construction projects found throughout the national territory. The operation concerning projects contained in the 2009 Public Investment Budget (PIB), will take place from May 27 to June 10, 2013. The 53 CNLCC members from all the ten regions of the country received training yesterday May 23, 2013 in Yaounde on techniques of evaluating the execution of the 2009 PIB in the Basic Education sector.

To the National Chairman of NACC, Rev. Dr Dieudonné Massi Gams, society takes its roots from the basic level of education.  He pointed out that; “We cannot have teachers, journalists, lawyers, politicians, doctors and name the rest, if the schools are not there. It is the foundation of society and one of the most important sectors of life.” On the choice of 2009, Massi Gams noted that it was going to be gradual. He said after 2009, the coalition would carry out similar operations for 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Meanwhile, NACC Chairman challenged CNLCC members to watch out against juicy offers from contractors of poorly executed projects. He said the commission has suffered similar gestures which to him can tarnish the image of an institution which is championing a just course. He urged them to redouble efforts on the field, praying them to come back with information related to the allocation of contracts, their amounts, if they were disbursed and more especially if the projects were executed and with regards to the respect of norms.

The fight against the spread of corruption, he said, was not individual but collective. He said going by the Head of State, Paul Biya, there is need for every Cameroonian to sacrifice and invest in this collective fight so that future generations would not suffer.

The National Anti-corruption Coalition is a concertation forum of activities of civil society associations created in 2008, with the goal of bringing together experiences, resources and expertise in the corruption domain from all over the national territory.
