Okola (Lekié)- It was an exceptional day for the people of Ngoya in the District of Okola in the Lekié Division of the Centre Region. The event was an information day on the dangers of

HIV/AIDS. The Ngoya Health Centre was chosen as the venue of the event. Inhabitants of

Ngoya and its environs came out massively to take part in the event.

Speaking at the occasion the Divisional Officer for Okola Subdivision, Alexandre Le Grand Ngoucheme Kutnzen lauded the initiative of Plan Cameroon in the improvement of the health sector and other sectors in the area. He expressed the hope that after the meeting the population will be more vigilant so that there will be no more cases of HIV/AIDS. The objective of the day was to strengthen the capacities of local actors particularly vulnerable people (women, youths and people living with HIV/IDS) in the fight against HIV/AIDS in the district of Okola through prevention, general care and the promotion of the rights of vulnerable people.

The day was an opportunity to share experiences on the fight against HIV/AIDS. It was equally an opportunity to sensitise the local population on the AIDS pandemic and make known the project to the population. The population listened to educative talks on the dangers and prevention of the HIV/AIDS. School children in the locality used songs to pass on their message on the killer disease.

Organised by Plan Cameroon, the event took place in the presence of authorities of the Okola Subdivision, traditional rulers and religious authorities and guests. The project brings together 130 villages in the health district of Okola which groups 61,000 inhabitants. The project is financed by Plan France, Plan Canada, Mairie de Paris and Région Île de France. Plan Cameroon is one of the oldest non governmental development organisation on children. Plan Cameroon is present in the country since 1996 in six regions notably the Centre, East, North West, Far North and North Regions.
