Experts Determined To Secure Cyberspace

Cyber threat is one of the most serious social, economic and national security challenge faced by many nations in the world. Cyber criminality is manifested in different forms such as hardware, viruse 

s, website defacement, and software, among others.

It is this light that the third annual conference of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) on cyber security opened in Yaounde on Thursday April 25, 2013. Speaking during the opening, the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Jean Pierre Biyiti bi Essam, expressed the wish for issues to be discussed in the conference to go along way to make cyber space safer.

He called on all participating states to implement the recommendations of the conference in order to enable them step ahead of criminals. The Minister assured participants that recommendations will help shape cyber security polices of the Cameroon government and hopefully take the country a step closer to an inclusive information society.

The CTO’s Commonwealth Cyber security Forum had been developed to assist stakeholders implement robust and effective cyber security framework in order to assure the safety, security and resilience of cyberspace. This will pave the way to leverage the potentials of cyberspace for the benefit of mankind, in particular to help the most marginalised across the world to achieve greater socio-economic development.

The two-day conference is organised by the CTO in collaboration with the Telecommunication Regulatory Board (ART). The event brings together participants from Africa, Asia and the Americas.
