Cameroon with seven athletes emerged 14th out of 17 participating countries after winning a total of six medals; one gold, one silver and four bronze in the competition which ran from June 12th to 17th.

The gold was won for Cameroon by Mvondo Stephane while Ebanga Zouga won silver. Kene Difono, Ngo Ebem, Naami Yang and Nyamsik Valerie each won a bronze medal. According to the national trainer, Kepsou Soupoursou, the results indicate an improvement in the performances of the athletes especially the boys who were in their maiden international competition. He says the future is bright for the athletes if well catered for as they as capable of occupying places on the final podium during the upcoming African Championships in Egypt in September and the World Championships to take place in Mexico in July.

The team will be reinforced by the presence of Bata Augustin, several times champion with France and gold medallist at the US and Dutch opens, who will be competing this time for Cameroon. More so, he said the federation is benefitting from the services of a coach from Korea, Woming Chung, who is assisting the technical bench.

At the national scene, the championship ended in May and athletes are now bracing up for the President’s Cup to come up in August and the Cameroon Cup in October. The federation also intends to organise refresher courses for coaches and referees to update their knowledge of the sport. They federation has now rented a hall where they train five times a day and all they need is government support to continue bringing honour to Cameroon in international competitions.
