A plenary sitting of the Senate took place yesterday during which two bills were adopted.

 Cameroon’s pioneer Senate yesterday, July 7, 2013 entered another historic phase of its existence by examining and adopting two bills.

 One of the  bills  was to authorise the President of the Republic to ratify the Central African Convention for the Control of small arms, light weapons, their ammunition and all parts and components that can be used for the their manufacture, repair and assembly, adopted in Kinshasa on 30 April 2010.  Another one was to authorize the President of the Republic to ratify the Bilateral Air Transport Agreement signed between Cameroon and Turkey in Ankara on 19 October 2012. The National Assembly, which is the Lower House of Parliament on July 4, 2013 adopted the bills in a plenary sitting.

The Senators indeed marked their debut in the legislative mission of Parliament in the plenary sitting chaired by its President, Niat Njifenji Marcel. This was in the presence of the Vice Prime Minister, Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Relations with the Assemblies, Amadou Ali. History will have it that the first ever bill the Senate adopted was the one on Bilateral Air Transport Agreement signed between the Government of the Republic of Cameroon and the Government of the Republic of Turkey in Ankara on 19 October 2012. The Minister of External Relations, Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo and the Minister Delegate at the Ministry of Transport, Mefiro Oumarou jointly defended the bill. The Agreement liberalises air services between Cameroon and Turkey and lays down the rules that should henceforth govern the operation of this air route which has a significant goods and passenger transport potential.

The second bill defended by the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo’o  was to authorise the President of the Republic to ratify the Central African Convention for the Control of small arms, light weapons, their ammunition and all parts and components that can be used for the their manufacture, repair and assembly.
