Man Dies On Wouri Bridge

As at press time, the corpse of the bike rider was still unidentified.

Life came to an end for a motorbike rider on Sunday July 7 night. The adult male, who was crossing the Wouri Bridge around 10pm, would never make it to the other end. According to Police officials who descended to the scene, eyewitnesses say the rider’s tyres slipped on the railway line found in the middle of the road.

Unable to control his engine, he abruptly knocked the sidewalk on his left, which propelled him out of his bike. On falling face-down, he crushed his forehead on the tar and died on the spot due to the shock. Meanwhile, his wrecked motorbike stopped a few metres away. The deceased motorbike rider’s remains were carried to a local hospital’s mortuary.

In an earlier incident, the Chief Executive Officer of Douala Bercy, Joseph Siewe cheated death during an armed robbery attack on Saturday July 6 around 3am. Information from the Bonanjo Judicial Police office holds the victim was returning home when he noticed he was being followed by a BMW car. He then decided to park his vehicle and went into a pharmacy, in order to check if it was true.

Believing there was nobody coming after him, he went back towards his car but before he could ignite the engine, three assailants surrounded his vehicle. They told Siewe to give what he had. Meeting his refusal, the assailants shot him on his right arm. However, he decided to retaliate by blocking the robbers’ car with his, which led to a collision between both vehicles. The BMW was propelled to a nearby wall, bringing the vehicle to a halt. The three assailants abandoned it and fled for their lives.

Upon inspection of the BMW car, police officials found a firearm, mobile telephones and other objects which were retained for investigations. Meanwhile, Joseph Siewe was administered medical attention at the Douala General Hospital. At press time, the men of the underworld were still at large.
