Engineers in the field are currently attending a workshop to this effect in Yaounde.

 The addresses of internet are being depilated. The world at large has been migrating from Internet Protocol Version Four (IPV4) to Internet Protocol Version Six (IPV6). The last band of IPV4 addresses are in Africa. In Europe and Asia the addresses have already finished and have already migrated to IPV6. Some Internet engineers in Cameroon say they cannot just sit and fold their arms but see how the country too can effectively migrate to IPV6 when the time comes. It is within this background that the Internet Numbers Registry for Africa (AFRINIC) and the Cameroon Chapter of Internet Society have organised a training workshop in Yaounde which ends on July 19.

The Secretary General of the Cameroon Chapter of Internet Society, Augustin Ngek Chii said people using internet is increasing and the number of addresses is not increasing. He explained that the entity involved with internet addresses has developed a new type of address called IPV6. For now Cameroon, just like most African countries, is using IPV4 and the addresses are getting finished and there is need to change for a greater band of addresses so that many more people can use. The participants at the workshop, who are engineers from Internet Service Providers, will look at the methods to change from IPV4 to IPV6 as well as the various technical backgrounds that have to be put in place for the change to take place.
