Cameroon, Korea Sign Aid Agreement

The move is expected to foster ties between both countries.

Cameroon, represented by the Minister of External Relation, Prof. Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo and Republic of Korea represented by its Ambassador to Cameroon, Cho June-Hyuck on July 15, 2013 in Yaounde signed a framework agreement for aid.

Prof. Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo welcomed and appreciated the decision by the Korean government to put Cameroon on the lists of eight priority beneficiary countries of its official development programme (ODA). He said Cameroon is happy with the signing of the framework for assistance by Korea and commended the subsequent formalisation of the legal framework for cooperation and assistance that the Korean government intends to make, through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in Cameroon.

He told the Korean diplomat that Cameroon was open to any proposal aimed at strengthening the economic relations, especially promoting investments by Korean companies, renowned for their professionalism and dynamism. He noted that the agreement will establish a platform for the strengthening and developing of economic and technical cooperation between the two countries.

The Korean Ambassador, Cho June-Hyuck hinted that Cameroon will benefit from extended cooperation in the form of the dispatch of Korean experts and on-the-spot training programmes, provision of equipment and machinery in connection with implemented projects, construction of facilities necessary for implementing projects, volunteers to share knowledge and experience, inviting nationals to training programs in Korea and providing the Cameroonian government with other forms of grants as may be mutually agreed upon by both parties.

He reiterated Korea’s commitment to continued cooperation with Cameroon, emphasising that they are pleased to be a development partner in Cameroon. He announced his country’s willingness to extend ties to the Information and Communication Technology, E-Government as well as the development of renewable energy-generating projects so as to support the country attain its economic emergence by 2035.
