The Head of Government visited the Mboro Kribi Deep Seaport project on Tuesday August 6, 2013.

“This is impressive, a wonderful job, a success and a way to the future,” These were the words,  the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Philemon Yang used to described the advancement and quality of work he inspected at the ongoing construction of the Deep Seaport and Industrial Complex at Mboro,  some 30 km south of the seaside resort town of Kribi,  in the South Region.

The visit to the deep seaport construction site which is the first phase of the Kribi Deep Seaport and Industrial Complex was heavily attended by members of government, local elite, workers and population who heartily welcomed the Prime Minister. Besides the in-camera working session with stakeholders of the project, the visit to the work site proper, was void of speeches. The Prime Minister visited all the different compartments of the project, asked questions and officials and technicians provided answers. This was in a convivial atmosphere as every member of government, elite and even workers accompanied the Head of Government to get his appreciations and answers to possible questions.

Indeed, the Prime Minister during the ceremony titled the solemn emerging of caissons  into the deep seaport, was briefed on the overall advancement of the project. He was told that the level of execution of the FCFA 287 billion project was more than 70 per cent. In the different compartments, he visited,  officials informed the Head of Government that out of the 1355m core of water break, 1323 m  was already executed, 80 per cent of back filing done, dynamic compacting of done at 40 per cent. The dredging of access channel and turning circle executed at 70.15 per cent. The project, one of the civil engineers in charge of supervision and control, Munongo Aboko Peter said, needed 32 caissons a key element of the wall of the harbor where ships will anchor. 22 of the caissons were already emerged into water, 11 awaiting to be positioned and four bring fabricated. Over 90 per cent of the north revetment was already executed and auxiliary buildings such as administrative block, refectory and water retreatment and power supply stations were being put up.

Talking to the press after visiting the project site, Prime Minister Yang said, “This is an example of the Greater Achievements programme of the President of the Republic. We don’t need to make any other comment   for this is the way to the future.”
