Following recurrent hazards at job sites, the training aimed at ameliorating working conditions in enterprises.

Heads and representatives from some enterprises are in Douala for a two-week training on occupational health and safety measures. Inspired by the increasing rate of work-related accidents and deaths as reported by the World Health Organisation, the International Labour Organisation and other research organs operating in this domain, the participants were regrouped for a training session aimed at creating a positive behavioural change in their respective job sites.

Another motive for the workshop according to the organiser, Johnson Ngwese, the General Manager of Global Training Solutions, is to transmit the knowledge acquired so as to boost output by curbing hazards. Drilling the participants, the workshop’s facilitator, Jamie Richardson from the United Kingdom-based Safety Management Training Services elaborated on the prevailing situation in most countries.

His presentations focused on how employers can treat employees like human beings and not like commodities. Issues like health insurance, adequate working materials, refresher courses, pension benefits amongst others, were listed among employers’ responsibilities towards their employees; while calling on employees to be duty-conscious.
