The time is delicate and there is no room for errors. Electioneering comes with the exchange of bitter words from adversaries, but the law has put in place principles to guard against this.

The April 19, 2012 Electoral Code that was amended and supplemented on December 21, 2012 in Section 94 (1) states that; “Where public law and order are seriously threatened, the administrative authority may, by order, prohibit any such meeting(s).

Article (2) adds that; “In such cases, administrative authority shall agree with the organisers on a new date or, where necessary, venue to enable them hold such meeting (s). It shall inform the competent branches of Elections Cameroon of such arrangements.” Still, Section 95 (1) specifies that; “Unless otherwise authorised by the competent administrative authorities with territorial jurisdiction, meetings may not be held on the public highway.

It concludes in Article (2) that; “The administrative authority may, having regard to local conditions, fix by order the hour after which no meeting may continue.”
