Another Ngangue Resident Dies In Fire Outbreak

The last of them, their 18-year lady, gave up the ghost at the Douala Military Hospital over the week-end.

Another person has died following the fire incident that took place in Ngangue, in one of the homes behind the Fatima Hotel. The 18-year-old young lady passed on at the Douala Military Hospital over the week-end, six days after her father and mother died in the same hospital.

The fire incident, which broke out at about 8am on Friday, September 6, 2013, and engulfed the room where they lived, erupted when a leaking gas cooker was lighted by the innocent daughter. She was assigned to prepare breakfast unknown to any that the gas had oozed into the room all over.

Witnesses at the scene say the mother and daughter were trapped inside the burning room while the father, N.E., fled outside but flames still flared from the clothes he put on. Neighbouring occupants quickly joined by other neighbourhood inhabitants, hastily put off the fire on the man and in the home with mud from the banks of a nearby brook. Neighbours to the family say the fire was first reported at about 8am but was soon stopped due to timely intervention.

The entire occupants were charred by gas flames, sustained third degree injuries including burns or smoke inhalation within the room used for bedding and kitchen. The injured persons were admitted at the Military Hospital where the mother died Saturday, September 7, and father on Sunday, September 8, as well as their daughter who agonised until death caught up with over the last week-end.  Worthy to note that the fire razed all properties in the room but was quickly stopped from cross over to other rooms of the house.
