Tunisia Faces Suspension From 2014 World Cup

FIFA says it will take the decision if government goes ahead to dissolve the Football Association.

After retrieving three points from Togo following FIFA’s sanctioning of the Hawks for fielding an ineligible player, the Indomitable Lions may again benefit from the misfortune of Tunisia who are under threat of suspension from FIFA due to government’s interference in the affairs of the football association.

The According to Hannibal TV, the Tunisian minister of Sports, Tarek Dhiab wrote to FIFA on September 17, requesting the dissolution of the executive bureau of the Tunisian football federation and its replacement with a care-taker committee to manage the affairs of the federation while pending fresh elections. FIFA responded given the Tunisian Football Federation 48 hours to offer explanations as to what could have motivated the minister to write such a letter.

FIFA also reminded the authorities that Tunisia will be suspended from all FIFA activities including global, continental and regional competitions. Should FIFA put their threat to action, then Tunisia will automatically be eliminated from the play-offs for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

In case of such a scenario, Tunisia will either be replaced by Tunisia as the second team of the group or Cameroon will simply be exempted from the play-offs and qualify by forfeiture. Whatever be the case, the Indomitable Lions are supposed to be on guard.
