National Medical Entrance Exam Holds Friday!

Some 800 candidates will be selected for admission into the first year of the six medical schools in Cameroon.

The written part of the national competitive proficiency examination for the admission of 800 Level One students to study medicine, pharmacy and dentistry in some selected State Universities and private institutions of higher learning, will take place on Friday, October 4, 2013.

According to a decision by the Ministry of Higher Education signed on August 5, 2013, the candidates are Cameroonians of both sexes aged at most 25 years and holders of the Baccalauréat in Series C or D, GCE Advanced Level in Biology and Chemistry or GCE Ordinary Level with Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics. Other certificates were admitted by the equivalence Committee of the Ministry of Higher Education.

The examination will be written in State universities, regional headquarters of Bertoua in the East Region and Garoua in the North Region. Foreign students are also eligible to sit for the examination.  

Candidates who will be swarming examination centres tomorrow were required to have presented a list of documents which comprised of an individual form filled and submitted online by the candidate in the website of the ministry of Higher Education, a certified copy of birth certificate, certified copies of academic certificates, four coloured passport sized photographs, a medical certificate of fitness, a result slip for Baccalauréat or GCE AL, a result slip for Probatoire or GCE OL and a registration fee of FCFA 20,000, among others.  The deadline for submission of documents at the Ministry of Higher Education and approved medical schools was September 16, 2013.

The competitive proficiency examination will comprise an assessment of the candidate’s school results (Coefficient 1), a written examination on Biology, Physics and Chemistry (Coefficient 4) as well as a paper on General Knowledge (Coefficient 1). All written subjects will be corrected using a scale from zero to 100 per cent. All marks lower than 20 per cent in a subject will be eliminated. The final results will be published by the Minister of Higher Education according to the quota defined by the press release.
