Limbe City Council Rewards 140 Youths

http://cameroon-tribune.cmA total of FCFA 6 million was distributed to the adolescents at the end of holiday jobs.

The Limbe City Council has come to the aid of some 140 youths selected from secondary and high schools as well as universities, resident in the municipality, with financial assistance worth FCFA 6 million. The money which was offered to the students within the framework of the Limbe City Council Holiday Scheme was paid to them at the end of their three different periods of the holiday job programmes.

While the secondary and high school had 50 students each for the period of July to August respectively, some 40 university students were selected for the month of September. Beneficiaries falling in the former category received FCFA 40,000 each while those in the latter group got FCFA 50,000 each from the City Council.

Addressing the students on Friday September 27, 2013 at the Council Hall, the Government Delegate to the Limbe City Council, Andrew Motanga Monjimba, urged the youths to use the money judiciously for as he put it, the council is investing for the future.  Motanga noted that the youths who are considered as leaders of tomorrow require a strong sense of responsibility which needs a sound education.

The Limbe City Council’s Social and Education Programme has touched the lives of more than 500 youths directly or indirectly spending some FCFA 57 million as scholarships between 2011 and 2013. The assistance is not only to help parents but also a means to fight juvenile delinquency among youths and inculcate the spirit of socialisation and interaction in the future leaders.

One of the beneficiaries who spoke on behalf of the students, Rita Tatah from the University of Buea, expressed gratitude to the Council authorities stating that the money will enable them go back to school with confidence and pride. The money, she added, is a morale booster and would help relieve some parents, especially those from low income homes, from back to school stress. The holiday job, to her, gave them a veritable opportunity to occupy themselves and avoid irresponsible behaviour during the vacation period.http://cameroon-tribune.cm
