SDF Takes Kumbo, Nkum Councils In Bui

The party won absolute majority to take all seats in the two council areas.

Results of the September 30, 2013 local council polls in Kumbo and Nkum Councils in Bui Division of the North West Region have been declared by the chairmen of the various council supervisory commissions.

Magistrate Taminang Atte Ignatius made public the results for Kumbo while Magistrate Ahmadou Ousmanou published those of Nkum on October 2, 2013. According to Taminang Atte Ignatius, the elections in Kumbo Council that took place in 91 polling stations involved 26,747 registered voters. The number of void votes stood at 128 while those who failed to vote were 4,077.

The CPDM party grabbed 7,151 votes with a score of 31.192 per cent while the SDF party grabbed 15,721 votes with a score of 68.573 per cent to take all the 41 council seats. As concerns the results of the polls in Nkum Council, Magistrate Ahmadou Ousmanou said the election was conducted in a total of 49 polling stations. Out of the registered number of voters that stood at 13,127, some 1,436 people voted, with 112 void votes recorded.

The number of valid votes cast in Nkum stood at 11,324. Some 5,158 people voted for the CPDM party with a score of 45.55 per cent while 6,166 others voted for the SDF party, giving 54.45 per cent to obtain the absolute majority needed to win all the 35 seats in Nkum Council.

As at the time of going to press, official results were still being awaited from Jakiri, Elak Oku, Nkor and Mbiame Councils.
