The ruling party emerged victorious with 56.23 per cent in the 30 September council poll.

Results of the September 30 council election for the Buea municipality have been proclaimed with the Cameroon’s People Democratic Movement , CPDM party, consolidating its grip over the Council with a 56.23 percent score as against 43.77 per cent for the opposition Social Democratic Front (SDF) party.

The results were declared in Buea on Wednesday October 2, 2013, barely 48 hours after the poll. While declaring the results, Magistrate Patience Tanyi of the Buea Court of First Instance, who sat in for Magistrate Bea Beatrice Nambangi epse Ntuba, President of the court, said the Council Supervisory Commission created by Decision No. 0743/ELECAM/DGE of 18 September 2013, began work at 6 pm on Monday 30 September and worked until midday October 1, 2013. It scrutinized reports from all the 136 polling stations in Buea.

According to the Commission’s report, a total of 35,465 voters registered in Buea, with 25,340 actually casting their votes and 10,125 abstaining. Out of the number, 14,071 were for the CPDM, giving a score of 56.23 per cent while 10,954 were for the SDF, giving 43.77 per cent. Void votes, according to the report, amounted to 315, representing 1.24 per cent.

Meantime, results from the Upper Bolifamba (Mile 16) polling station were annulled as per Section 112 of the Electoral Code for what the Chair of the Council Supervisory Commission said were flagrant irregularities. Mrs. Tanyi explained that the number of actual votes stood at 143, more than the 128 registered in that polling station.

As per Section 193 of the Electoral Code, Magistrate Patience Tanyi thus declared the CPDM list comprising 41 councilors winner of the 30 September local council election in Buea area. The party has thus succeeded itself at the helm of the Buea Council, a victory that left members of the CPDM list present in the hall as well as other party supporters, jubilating.
