Cameroon Supports Destruction Of Syrian Chemical Weapons

Below is a Communiqué from the Ministry of External Relations.

The Government of the Republic of Cameroon is deeply concerned with the developments registered in recent months in the situation in Syria, relating especially to the use of chemical weapons which have caused many losses in human lives.

Cameroon, a State party to the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on their Destruction, strongly condemns the use of such weapons in whatever circumstances.

As Vice-President of the Executive Council of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Cameroon has participated in the drafting and adoption of the Council’s Decision of 27 September 2013 on the destruction of Syrian chemical weapons, which enabled the United Nations Security Council to unanimously vote Resolution 2118 (2013) of 27 September 2013.

Cameroon supports without reserve the terms of this Resolution, and exhorts all the parties to scrupulously respect its application. It also calls for a stop of all hostilities in Syria and for a peaceful settlement of the crisis which is rocking this country and continues to cause untold sufferings on the Syrian people.
