Cameroonian Protestants Seek Unity

A roundtable to mark the National Protestantism Week held in Yaounde on October 21, 2013.

The Secretary General of the Council of Protestant Churches of Cameroon, Rev. Pastor Philippe Nguette, has urged Protestant Christians in Cameroon to work together for the evangelisation of Cameroon and the enhancement of social works.

He made the call on Monday October 21, 2013 at the Marie Gocker EPC Parish in Yaounde, during a roundtable on the theme: “Having come this far, let us walk together in the same steps.” The conference was part of activities to mark the 17th edition of the National Protestantism Week in Cameroon.

Rev. Nguette said the challenge was to make all Protestant Christians be one so that together they can build a strong church in Cameroon. The different speakers gave a historical and philosophical perspective of Cameroon and stressed on the need for unity in protestantism in the country.

In a theological and pastoral contribution to the theme of this year, the Field Pastor of Yaounde Field Conference of Baptist Churches, Rev. Dr Charlemagne Nditemeh, said within protestantism, there were differences, diversities and specificities in Cameroon. This, according to him, is the reason why there is no unity among protestant churches in Cameroon. “Unless our diversities, specificities and differences are entering into dialogue and conversation with our quest for unity, we cannot walk in the same steps,” he said.

The objective was for protestant Christians to reflect on the past and present achievements and plan for the future. The National Protestantism Week activities continue today in all the regions of the country.
