The cyclist from La Pasta Velo club of Douala won the prologue of the race in Limbe on Wednesday, October 23, 2013.

Hardly has the dust settled from the 13th edition of the Grand Prix Chantal Biya, than another cycling competition began in Cameroon. The third edition of the cycling race dubbed “Transrégionale Camerounaise” kicked off on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 with the prologue of the race at the sea-side resort city of Limbe.

Just like in the Grand Prix Chantal, Cameroon got up to a good start by winning the prologue of the race. This time it was Kela Arthur of La Pasta Velo club of Douala who made the country proud. The challenge is to see whether he will be able to conserve the yellow jersey like Yves Ngue Ngock did in the Grand Prix Chantal Biya and eventually win the competition.

According to the organizers, FENAP Velo Club of Cameroon, the competition is to determine the best cyclist and best cycling team from the central African region. The race to cover a total of 1355km will pass through eight of the ten regions of Cameroon according to the following itinerary; Limbe-Douala-Kribi-Puma-Yaounde-Ayos-Bertoua-Garoua Boulai-Meiganga-Ngaoundere-Garoua-Maroua and Yaounde.

The ten-lap race to run up to November 9, has been placed under the theme “knowledge and maturity’ and will witness the participation of cyclists from some neighbouring countries like Gabon, Congo, Nigeria and the Central African Republic. Besides the competition proper, there will other activities such as a scientific forum in the University of Maroua on the theme, the scientific contribution of the Albert Einstein Centre and a mini race christened ‘Grand Prix Renouveau’ to be run along the streets of the Far North Regional capital, Maroua.

FENAP Velo club is a subsidiary of the Albert Einstein centre which has as objective to promote science, sports and the word of God. Their motto according to the president of the club, Flavien Nguetsa Kamanou, is ‘justice and victory. The last edition of the race was won by the wild cats of Bazoubangui from the Central African Republic.
