Seven Suspected Car Robbers Arrested in Douala

Security forces recovered 12 cars reportedly snatched from various unidentified owners.

Seven people reportedly members of a gang, specialised in the theft of Toyota corolla cars, was dismantled over the week-end by security forces in Douala. The suspects include three women and four men were taken into custody with 12 stolen cars recently following a tip off from an informant.

The alleged robbers and five of the cars were arrested in an abode opposite the Government Bilingual High School Bonaberi; the other seven cars were picked up behind Stade CICAM in the economic capital. The ladies are Glory Akwa (32), Elisabeth Atesung (25) and Pauline Moguem (58) in whose residence the cars were parked. We could not get the names of their male friends in crime. Fake number plates, car doors, booths and mutilated registration numbers were a part of the booties in their custody. Gang leader, a certain Emmanuel Ayere, is still on the run.  

After three weeks of investigations, the anti-criminal brigade of the Judicial Police in Douala launched an assault in the home of one of the suspects, Pauline Moguem, situated opposite the Government Bilingual High School Bonaberi.

The suspects disclosed that it take them just about 5 minutes to dismantle a stolen car, considering that they also perform various functions like painting, mechanics, motor electricity and car body repairs as well as drivers, among others, to conceal the identity of their booties. The cars are in Judicial Police custody in Bonanjo pending identification by their rightful owners as investigations continue.
