Cameroon, EU Strengthen Relations

European Union Commissioner for Trade, Karel De Gucht discussed with Prime Minister Yang.

Cooperation ties between the European Union and Cameroon are expected to henceforth be fortified following discussions the visiting European Union Commissioner for Trade, Karel De Gucht had on Tuesday, November 12, 2013, with the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Philemon Yang in Yaounde.

He was accompanied to the Star Building discussions by the new European Union Delegation head to Cameroon, Françoise Collet. The European Union Trade Commissioner on a 48-hour working visit to Cameroon was programmed to hold working sessions with senior government officials as well as leaders of the public and private sectors.

After talks with Prime Minister Yang, Karel De Gucht said Cameroon’s economy was more diversified in the Central African Sub-region, stating that partnership agreements in the export sector of Cameroon’s goods will boost trade with Europe as well as with neighbouring countries. He particularly mentioned products from Cameroon in the banana and aluminium sectors.
