Lecturers, Researchers Seek Better Conditions

The 14th session of the Permanent Consultation Forum held in Yaounde yesterday, November 13, 2013.

Improving the working conditions of lecturers, quality health insurance policy and bonuses for researchers are some of the problems faced by lecturers of State universities in the country.

It is within this light that the 14th session of the Permanent Consultation Forum (CCP) between the Ministry of Higher Education and lecturers of State universities in Cameroon held in Yaounde yesterday November 13, 2013. The theme for this year was “Appropriation of quality teaching by the university community towards better university governance in our higher education.”

Speaking at the opening, the Minister of Higher Education, Jacques Fame Ndongo said the problem of quality insurance, health policy and major challenges due to the increasing number of workers continue to be a cause for concern. He called on participants to work hand-in-glove and come out with concrete resolutions in order to meet set objectives.

The purpose of the meeting was for members to brainstorm on major issues, evaluate the achievements since the last session and to plan for the future. Participants had the task to give an update of activities since the last session, evaluate the level of the protocol agreement between the AXA-Insurance and the Ministry of Higher Education and a balance-sheet on the improvement of the living and working conditions of lecturers and researchers who are already being awarded the special prize for the modernisation of research by the Head of State since April 2009.

The meeting brought together officials of the central services of the Ministry of Higher Education and representatives of lecturers and researchers of State universities.
