Reunification Anniversary: MINHDU Evaluates Projects


Minister Jean Claude Mbwentchou has expressed satisfaction with works so far realized.

      

The objective of Minister Jean Claude Mbwentchou's visit to Buea last Saturday, 16 November 2013, was simple. Evaluate the level of realisation of projects, give instructions, make recommendations, and inform hierarchy on the progress of work ahead of the 50th Anniversary of Cameroon's Reunification.

The site visit which started at 8 am, ended at 4:30 pm with a technical meeting. Accompanied by Governor Bernard Okalia Bilai and his close collaborators, the quality control of road projects that have a direct impact with the celebrations, took the Minister and entourage to the Mile 18-Malingo Junction Stretch; End of Tar Afosi Bookshop-Bokwai-Muea Road; Bonduma Gate-Bokwai Road; Campaign Street-Wonya Mongo Stretch; Wonya Mongo-Buea Town Road; Old Cinema Road Junction-Bona Lyonga-Wondongo-Buea Town Road; Buea Town-Catholic Church-ENAP-Main Road; Police Roundabout-Governor's Office; Presidency Roads and Earth Road at the Main Presidential Palace Entrance Gate; Residential Quarters of the Presidential Guards; Federal Quarters-West Farms- Government High School Bokwaongo; Government Primary School Small Soppo-Great Soppo (Moki Garage); Regional Delegation of National Security-Governor's Office-Synod Office-Court of Appeal-BICEC Junction-Court Junction-Residence of SG Region; KUVE Junction-Hospital-Military Camp-Razel Junction- Main Road; Mile 17-Police Roundabout-Prime Minister's Lodge-Presidency-Bowaongo.

On each stop, the Minister gave instructions why some poorly constructed culverts must be replaced, work re-done to ensure proper drainage and potholes to be filled. At the open-air amphitheatre where work was going on unabated, the foreman explained that all is being done to respect the deadline "while funds are being awaited from Yaounde."

Additional projects came to the limelight during a technical meeting at the Governor's Conference Hall. ARAB CONSTRACTORS was instructed to ensure that the road at the entrance of the University of Buea Campus to cost some CFAS 251 million, be completed before 10 December, 2013. The Minister called on the Governor to contact the Bishop of the Buea Diocese and sensitise him on the importance of the road from Buea town passing through the Catholic Church to the main road. The main executing enterprises CHARIOT and ARAB CONTRACTORS both gave balance-sheets on what has been done, what remains to be done especially parking lots and pledged completion latest 30th November 2013.

Durable Projects

The Minister informed the population that the projects are durable not ephemeral. And as such, should be handled with care. He said from the initial CFA 4.5 billion to CFA 9.4 billion and eventually CFA 13.5 billion and even more in the coming days for these projects; no one should question the determination of Government to embellish the town and bequeath a lasting impact for posterity after the celebrations.
