Road Rehabilitation: Mboppi-Douche Receives Facelift

http://cameroon-tribune.cmThe project will relief traffic jam on the stretch as a result of potholes.

The Douala City Council has engaged on the rehabilitation of roads across the economic capital. Several stretches are already under consideration now. Work has begun on the Mboppi to Akwa road connecting two important markets; Mboppi and Congo.

The importance of the rehabilitation project is that it links Marché Mboppi which is largest market in Central Africa that serves a regional and domestic public to all other parts of the economic metropolis. Marché Congo, on its part, is mostly patronised for domestic and household items such as culinary, textile, jewels and electronic gadgets by the local population who in some way use the road under rehabilitation.

The road consists of a double traffic lane and two foot pavements stretching from the AGIP Junction in Mboppi to Douche Municipal in Akwa. It entertains a large number of people and traffic on a daily basis.

Work presently taking place on the stretch by Societé MAG started last week and consists of digging to remove loose tar in and around potholes, then refilling with new gravel and tarring up their surfaces.

Traders and buyers shuttling between these markets, as often as it is, will also find it easy going back home without the stress of moving on bumpy road. Before now, the rutted road allowed for a huge traffic hold up around Mboppi and Camp Yabassi and brought economic loss to car owners whose vehicles would remain idling for a long time on the spot.http://cameroon-tribune.cm
