Enterprise Competitiveness: Standards, Quality Promotion Underway

Activities to mark the National Quality Week kicked off in Douala on November 20.

Since its creation, the Standards and Quality Agency (ANOR) has focused on the drawing up of standards, certification of products consumed locally and the promotion of its activities as well as standards.

However, stakeholders in standardisation and the general public do not yet feel the benefits of these efforts, reason why the National Quality Week was set up in 2012. The Week seeks to create a framework of exchange between all stakeholders in standardisation on topical issues and the role standards and quality play. It also seeks to create a communication forum for enterprises to make known their efforts towards producing quality products to customers.

The National Quality Week currently holding at the Douala Bonanjo Party House was opened by the Secretary General in the Ministry of Mines, Industry and Technological Development on November 20, 2013. The Week which runs from November 18 to 22, is marked by a Quality Forum during which a series of debates on “Normalisation at the service of security” are being held. The debates highlight various current problems faced by the Cameroonian public in their living environment. These cover security problems that affect housing, nutrition, electric energy, fire disasters, transport, information and communication technology, healthcare administration, education, life at work and everyday lifestyle.

The General Manager of ANOR, Charles Booto à Ngon, said at the event’s opening that companies with national or international certification will be distinguished in view of enhancing their internal and external competitiveness.

The 2013 edition seeks especially to present Cameroon’s data of established norms. It was opportunity for participants to exchange with ANOR officials and other actors on the organisation and planning of activities in the sector.
