Senate President Invited To Nigeria

Marcel Niat Njifenji yesterday received the Nigerian High Commissioner and Belgian Ambassador.

The Nigerian High Commissioner to Cameroon, Mustapha Hadiza, yesterday, November 28, 2013, extended an invitation to Cameroon’s Senate President, Marcel Niat Njifenji to visit her country. Mustapha Hadiza told the press after paying a courtesy call on the President of the Senate, Marcel Niat Njifenji, that; “If he is to organize any external tour, I hope that Nigeria will be one of the first places to visit.”

Nigeria has two parliamentary chambers like Cameroon, she said, though they are older in experience than Cameroon. There is therefore a lot of experience that could be shared between staffers of the chambers of the two countries, Hadiza noted. “We do have a college of legislature that I believe can benefit staffers of the chambers of Cameroon through exchange visits,” the Nigerian diplomat said.

She however regretted that Nigeria recently hosted a Pan-African Parliamentary session where Cameroon’s Senate was not represented. “Those are areas where people can sit together and share experiences and also extend brotherhood,” she pointed out.

Niat Njifenji’s second august guest was the Belgian Ambassador to Cameroon, Jan De Bryune. He told the press after the meeting that they discussed economic and commercial ties, an area he is committed to fostering through any possible efforts. “I also congratulated the Senate President on the September 30, 2013 twin elections in Cameroon, not without extending my appreciation for the willingness of Cameroon to continue to work in that light.”

Budget

Meanwhile, business in the House was in full gear yesterday as members of the Finance and Budget Committee brainstormed on the nitty gritties of budgeting. The forum was organized in partnership with the Audit Bench of the Supreme Court.

Marcel Niat Njifenji in a brief stop at the working session, cheered participants, extending gratitude to the Audit Bench for taking time off to school members of the Finance and Budget Committee of the Senate. The President of the Audit Bench of the Supreme Court, Marc Ateba Ombala, said it was their duty to train Senators on budgeting, while appreciating the Senate President for his commitment to the programme.
