Its FCFA 21. 541 billion package will help pursue ongoing works and engage new ones.

The Ministry of Sports and Physical Education (MINEP) is bracing up to considerably step up the number and quality of sports infrastructure in the country in view of hosting international competitions. MINSEP boss, Adoum Garoua, says Cameroon will host the Female African Nations Cup in 2016 and is also bracing up to hosting the male category and it would be imperative to have infrastructure worth the competitions.

After defending his ministry’s 2014 budget at the Budget and Finance Committee of the National Assembly in the early hours of Wednesday December 4, Minister Adoum Garoua told the press that focus will be on finalising ongoing construction of sports infrastructure in some towns in the country and engaging new ones that will at term not only improve on the number of sports infrastructure the country has but their quality as well.

He disclosed that of the FCFA 21.541 billion the ministry is requesting for 2014, FCFA 500 million will be pumped in as external financing for the Limbe and Bafoussam stadiums managed by the Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development. He said negotiations will also intensify to secure financing for envisaged construction of stadiums in Yaounde and Douala. In the short term, he said, his ministry will construct an advanced football academy and other sports infrastructure nationwide in the medium and long terms.

Other areas of focus of the ministry, he announced, will be grooming sports movements as well as governance and institutional support to the sports and physical education sub-sector. He said FCFA 7 900 500 000 will be used to groom sports movements, FCFA 7 710 000 000 for developing sports infrastructure and FCFA 5 930 500 000 for the institutional support.
