Senate President Solicits More Government Assistance

Marcel Niat Njifenji on Wednesday chaired the closing plenary sitting of the 2013 November session.

The President of the Senate, Marcel Niat Njifenji has called for more government assistance to enable Senators effectively play their role  in government action, especially in the management of local and regional authorities they represent.

He chaired the closing plenary sitting of the November 2013 ordinary session of Parliament, yesterday, December 11, 2013 in the presence of the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril  and Prime Minister, Head of Government, Philemon Yang who lead cabinet ministers.

The Senate, he said, has been functional for only seven months. He used the occasion to thank the Head of State, Paul Biya for the diverse support to facilitate the putting in place of the institution.  Senators, during the November budgetary session, voted seven bills, the most important being the Finance bill for 2014 that contains the State budget which stands at FCFA 3 312 billion.

Marcel Niat Njifenji said the November session confirmed the determination of the Senate  to effectively play its role in supporting the policy  of President Paul Biya that focuses on consolidating national integration, and the execution of programmes and objectives to contribute in making Cameroon an emerging country by 2035. Senators, he said, showed their determination to remain at the service of general interest and their acceptance to belong to a Parliament of reference whose priority is work and carrying out its mission.

He lauded the presence of the Prime Minister in sessions and ceremonies of the Senate. The presence was the manifestation of implementing the policy defined by the Head of State that lays emphasis on positive collaboration between the government and the legislative power. He pledged  the  partnership of the Senate in nation-building. Senators, their President urged, must keep up with the same spirit to work for general interest and success of the policies defined by President Paul Biya.
