A two-day seminar ended in Yaounde on December 12, 2013.

Operators in the telecommunications sector drawn from the East, South, and Centre Regions have been sensitised on the regulatory procedures for the utilisation of spectrum for radio-electrical frequencies.

Owing to a new law promulgated in 2010 to complement the old one, the Telecommunications Regulatory Board’s Directorate of Frequency Management thought it wise to drill operators on the law and other salient areas with the aim to reduce disorder and prevent frequency interference.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, the representative of the General Manager of the Telecommunications Regulatory Board (ART), Ba née Ada Mve said the sector is governed by national and international norms. Under the International Telecommunications Union Convention, to which Cameroon adheres, the cost of running the sector is carried out by the State and frequency users. She made known that the 2010 law ensure the assigning and control of frequency spectrum and assure that access to network opened to the public should be done objectively.

The seminar presented and made use of both national and international text on telecommunication that will facilitate equitable access to frequencies and assure a hitch-free usage by authorised operators. ART’s Sub-Director in charge of Administrative Frequency Management, Raymond Ayene, disclosed that two years back, ART control arm checked and sanctioned many illegal operators of the sector.

To circumvent frequency interferences at the wake of digital era, he noted that they are working with neighbouring countries to prevent clashes. For two days, participants were sensitised on telecommunications regulation, issuance of authorisation, assigning radio-electronic frequencies, control of frequency usage and the inspection of radio-electrical sites among others.
