Over 500 Files For University Recruitment, Promotion

The 29th and 30th session of the CCIU opened in Yaounde on Tuesday, December 17, 2013.

Members of the Consultative Committee of University Institutions (CCIU) began meeting in Yaounde for the 29th and 30th session yesterday December 17, 2013 at the Higher Teachers’ Training College (ENS) Yaounde.

The CCIU is a scientific and academic organ which is in charge of recruitment and promotion of lecturers in State universities. For four days, the members of the jury made up of experts from State universities will examine 561 files. The Coordinator of CCIU, Abdouraman Saïdou, said there is an increase in the number of files as compared to last year when 410 files were received.

According to statistics from the CCIU, there are 338 assistant lecturers who want to be promoted to the grade of lecturers, 180 lecturers who are postulating for the grade of associate professor and 44 associate professors seeking promotion to the grade of professors, making a total of 561.

Abouraman Saïdou said there are criteria for selection to enable teachers move from the grade of assistant lecturer to lecturer, lecturer to associate professor and associate professor to professor. The event comes on the heels of the fifth edition of the fifth University Brain Trust Competition “Universiades”. The two events are within the framework of the new academic governance policy prescribed by the Head of State, Paul Biya, and implemented by the Prime Minister and Head of Government, Philemon Yang.
