The Board of Directors held its 50th ordinary and 21st extra-ordinary session last Friday December 27.

Members of the Board of Directors of the Cameroon News and Publishing Corporation (SOPECAM) last Friday December 27 in Yaounde examined and adopted FCFA 14,245,470, 470 as the running and investment budget of the company for the year 2014. The board meeting was chaired by the Board Chairman, Joseph Anderson Le, who said FCFA 10,495,063,790 of the budget will be used as running capital while FCFA 3,750,406,680 will be used as the investment budget for 2014.

The meeting did not only focus on adopting the 2014 budget of the corporation but also examined and approved the 2013 activities report as well as examined the plan of action for the coming year. For over six hours members of the Board of Directors thoroughly examined the budget of the company for next year which will be used to cover major events during the year.  The extraordinary session looked at certain issues of the company which are linked to good governance, efficient management of finance and human resources. The Board Chairman, Jospeh Le said in 2014 the company will receive new equipment such as the printing machine “Rotative”. He said it is important that the company gets set to effectively use the machine so as to be able to face new challenges.

At the beginning of both sessions, Joseph Le in his introductory note lauded the General Manager of SOPECAM, Marie Claire Nnana and her team for a satisfactory 2013 balance sheet. As this year draws to an end, it is reported that SOPCEAM was able to attain all its goals set up like the coverage of the elections which was crowned by the publication of a special journal on the new political map of the country. While noting that 2014 will be another intensive year of work particularly with the five per cent growth rate projected by BEAC, Joseph Le told SOPECAM management to put into place measures to modernise their production units  so as to improve output. The General Manager of SOPCEM was also called upon to complete construction of major projects such as the site for the new printing machine especially as the government has respected its own financial obligation in the project.

The board meeting also recommended that the General Manager takes all measures necessary to improve the activities of the company so that it efficiently makes use of new equipment at its disposal. The Board Chairman used the sessions to thank the President of the Republic for all the efforts made to modernise SOPECAM.
