Alexandre Ferdinand Nguendet made his first broadcast to the nation yesterday, January 13, 2014.
As the Central African Republic, CAR’s interim Parliament, the National Transitional Council, CNT, begins meeting today, January 14, 2014, in an extraordinary 10-day session to elect a replacement for President Michel Djotodia, the Acting President and Head of the CNT, Alexandre Ferdinand Nguendet, yesterday appealed for forgiveness and reconciliation amongst the people. The new leader said this was necessary to enable the country move forward to ensure the holding of new presidential elections in February 2015.
In a broadcast, Alexandre Ferdinand Nguendet recalled that since the March 24, 2013 overthrow of President François Bozizé, the country had become notorious for violence and gross violations of human rights, the web site of the Presidency that published the address said. He noted that the December 4, 2013 sectarian violence in the capital, Bangui, plunged the nation into unprecedented chaos and imminent disintegration, with television footage of distressed people broadcast across the globe.
The Acting Head of State announced that the July 2013 Constitutional Charter shall serve as the basis for the choice of Transitional Head of State while a Prime Minister will be appointed afterwards to form a new government of national unity. In this light, cabinet ministers of the former government shall continue to serve until a new government is formed.
He called on all soldiers of the defunct national army, FACA, former Séléka troops and anti-Balaka militia men to be ready to support the new government in ensuring the restoration of law and order alongside the Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration, DDR programme that will be relaunched.
President Michel Djotodia resigned on Friday, January 10, 2014 alongside Prime Minister Nicolas Tiangaye following a summit of leaders of the Economic Community of Central African States, ECCAS in Ndjamena, Chad. Today’s meeting of Parliament was convened on Sunday, January 12, 2014 by Alexandre-Ferdinand Nguendet, Radio France International, RFI, reported yesterday.
Nguendet will act for 15 days until the 135 members of CNT elect someone to conclude the transition begun by Djotodia last year after his overthrow of President François Bozizé in March 2013.
