John Nkemngong Nkemgasong is the winner of the 2013 Eko Prize for Literature by the Eko Foundation for the Furtherance of Literature (EFFL). The prize-award ceremony took place in Yaounde on Saturday January 25, 2013. The event was organised by the Anglophobe Cameroon Writers Association (ACWA).

A press release from the ACWA signed by Dr. Eunice Ngongkum states that the decision recognises his life time achievement as prolific writer whose works cut across genres and has made significant impact on Cameroon Literature and beyond. He has been guest author at the University of Oxford, guest speaker at the Chicago Humanities Festival, USA, Writer-in-Residence at the University of Iowa, USA, where he was awarded the title of “Honorary Fellow in Writing” and a lot more. He was congratulated for promoting Anglophobe Cameroon Literature in the past ten years through his leadership of Cameroon Writers’ Association.

According to the press, the winners of the Eko Prize for Emerging Anglophone Writers are Abetty Gwandi who wins the prose fiction prize for his work titled: “Traded for a Trifle”, Focho Gladys Ngwi wins the poetry category for her collection of poems titled: “If you were God”, Hans Ndah Nyah wins the drama category for his work titled: “Jacob Ache the Great” and Sampson Nkwetatang wins the notification category for his book titled: “Discourses”.  The Eko Prize for literature is an award by the Eko Foundation for the Furtherance of Literature (EFFL), an educational foundation incorporated in the State of Iowa, in the United States of America.
